June 14, 2009

This college proyect takes advantage of wireless electricty transfer (witricity), and applies the “new” technology to the steam iron.  Designed to fit into the Philips 2020 habitat proposed a while back, the iron features an LED tube which changes color according to the heat of the iron to help users see more clearly at what temperature the iron is operating.  ”Wiron” also includes a digital interface for steam and temperature settings, an enlarged water tank for prolonged use, and powerfull steam pressure representing a natural evolution of current Philips technologies.  Designed by Carla Shapiro and myself in the first half of the first semester 2009 at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica (PUC) in santiago chile.

Initial concept sketches… very rough, very small… a first step after market research and study of parts of an old iron… and the second set of images is a series showing the different colors and their relation to the temperature of the iron.
